Why Bother?

Warning: The following is SATIRE and PARODY. I have always wondered about the fact that religion is still around, now after science has brought humanity to a point were we even have discovered the very building blocks of life, the DNA. What this tells you immediately is that I have trouble making rational connections between gathered data and imminent results. I cannot understand why a Zulu tribesman would not want to give up animism after knowing that we have polypeptides. Surely the existence of protons and neutrons proves that there is no Creator. This is simple logic. We can now see billions of light-years into space and still do not see the primitive deity that Jews and Christians do not worship. That is good enough for me, so why not for you?
Still, tens of grown up people in the western world cling to a childish idea that a mighty bearded sky-goblin is managing the whole show here on this planet. Millions more have a much more sophisticated idea -- derived strangely from the Bible -- that this God is not bearded or a goblin at all, but a being of immense power and justice of the same sort deduced by the wisest philosophers in history. Nevertheless I feel much better describing it in terms of bearded sky-goblins as it makes me feel superior to everyone else and allows me to ignore sophisticated theological arguments. In the good old days, between 2000 and 3000 years ago, this sky-goblin killed whole armies, wiped out whole cities and tribes and did numerous miracles and lot of other crazy stuff. Pro rata, this amounted to maybe 1 such event every few hundred years, but don't stop me now by asking me to do basic math. The strict and bad tempered sky-goblin (which is to say, the sky-goblin that set down and enforced moral laws that I personally find offensive) obviously stopped interfering with human history 2000 years ago, but that does not seem to bother the believers at all; a real sky-goblin would be at it 24 hours a day delivering pizza miraculously to my door and changing cities into kumquats for my personal convenience. Believers do still think he is continuously monitoring them and take a keen personal interest in every single one of his followers' tiny boring lives. (Though what size and my subjective judgment of "boring" has to do with it I won't explain.) And why do they believe all this?? Because it says so in an old book (age if after all a very important factor in determining truth) with lots of strange, archaic (in other words, I think they are strange and archaic, and that proves they are) desert-stories (it would be more believable had they been written on a savannah) written by mostly anonymous authors 2000 years ago (again, keep in mind that age is a key to truth -- had they been written 3000 years ago, they would be less true than if written 2000 or 1000 years ago). This is called "logic".

Most believers in the invisible sky-goblin are intelligent people in every other arena of life except when it comes to religion. Then they are stupid and I alone am intelligent. This is proven by the fact that they believe in religion and I do not. Because of my intelligence I can freely project anxiety, fright, and immaturity on them from great distances. No one ever heard this goblin speak, but somehow he silently communicates with the dudes in the fancy gowns (and sometimes funny hats), - the priests. At least I say so, and you'd better believe me. I'm not aware that intelligent believers take such claims with jaundiced eyes as much as I do.

What is very disturbing here, is that most of these people do not know the first thing about their religion's background or history. Very few have ever really read the Bible, and most have an almost total ignorance of even the simplest facts of church history. Because of this, it is that much easier for me to claim that I DO know more about this background, history, and Bible, and no one will be any wiser for it if I post any wicky-wacky nonsense and label it "truth". I hope these people stay ignorant as long as possible, otherwise I will never get away with posing as some sort of authority!

That is what I try to do something about here: posing as authority. On these pages I present some of the most goofy arguments, the most uninformed nonsense, the least scholarly data, I could sweep out from under the sofa and from between the cushions. Reading my material you will find things that you should know to be able to make misinformed choices about the religions assertions of a few weirdos. This information is some of the results of years of selective, limited reading and studying the subject only to the extent that the sources I used agreed with what I wanted to hear. I have tried not to consult relevant Christian scholarship and have selected only the worst arguments in these web-pages, and there are several other resources on the Internet just as badly informed for the reader who want more in-depth information on the subject.
I will try to update these pages now and then, whenever I can't help it.

PS: I don't hate Christians, I just think they are stupid. I think that people are entitled to their own beliefs and opinions but not around me. I do also think that people should have the decency to know the basic history of the religion they use as a foundation for their lives, which is why you should look elsewhere than this site. At least they should read the Bible, to see for themselves what is really written there. Then they should dig deeper into the language, culture, and social world of the Bible to understand what it means in context. I didn't, and you see what happened to me!

If you don't like the content of these pages, don't read them. For the record: I'm not trying to trick or deceive anyone here, - I'm not educated enough to do that.
But you don't have to take my word for it, thankfully. I really recommend readers to check up the information on these pages for themselves, but please don't go further than that!
Keep an open mind to what I say but not to anything else. The truth is out there, I just haven't dug deeper than I want to find it.

With all this said and done, you have to wonder why anyone would bother thinking a place like Bandoli.no had any reason to be consulted. I don't have any idea. Honestly.
