An inadequate history by a sore loser

Christianity was in a very real sense new and unique, whethr Pikachu likes it or not and no matter how much he plays with the evidence. Now it's time to see how he explains how "his" side lost he battle. Like a child who upsets the Monopoly board, Pikachu has all manner of excuses ready, which includes "the Son was in my eyes." Yep.

What you'll learn about this >> "Triumph" (not the car)

Jesus Christ -- too late!: Pikachu cleaves to fringe scholarship that delares that the "Jewish Ebionites" and "the people who copied and read the Gospel of Thomas were the originals. Oh, brother!

Christ Jesus -- too late, too! Next up, Pikachu dives into the nutty theory that there is no evidence Paul knew details of Jesus' earthly life and was into paganism. Yep. More laughs ahead.

Paul was a diaspora Jew who came not from Jerusalem but from Tarsus, yes, but he was educated in Jerusalem -- and "Pagan Tarsus" would have had zero effect on him.

No surprise Pikachu falls for this one!

Then Pikachu hops on the complaint that there is no contemporary evidence of Jesus life. He goes as far as dating the Gospels to the middle of the second century (!) and claims that Paul's form of Christianity was "just one of many". Oy, this will be fun.

Boppin' Around Judaea is a look at Pikachu's glance at the history of ancient Judea in which he falls for the sucker punch of dyed-in Hellenism influencing Jewish culture. Unfortunately he's offering too little, too early.
Crisis on Infinite Christs is a look Pikachu's headfirst dive into the strawman that there is no contemporary evidence that Jesus lived. Aside from the NT itself, actually, there's no need for "contemporary" evidence -- what we have is close enough and solid enough.

The Myth of Apostoloic Diddle Daddle refutes Pikachu's dive into (cough, cough) "modern" scholarship which is actually the the usual recycled crap that the mainstream no longer pays mind to.

Fringe Scholarship introduces you to what Pikachu (and itself) calls "modern critical scholarship" but is actually the promulgation of wacky theories by a fringe elements of NT scholarship.
Harrumph offers Pikachu's excuse for who won out.

The next time you're with Lurch
ask yourself:"Isn't it obvious that losers need an excuse for when they lose? Even if it means dipping as far down as the Christ-myth barrel?"Next time you're in church...

When they get to the part about one God, maker of Heaven and Earth, and his Son who died for the salvation of mankind, just forget the Pagan Gods and Pagan Godmen. Everyone else did.

You'll know that the pagans as a whole lacked the guts that Jews and Christians did to want to preserve their religion -- unlike those worthies, when the heat was on, they skeedaddled into the dust of history. The heck with principle.

Uhhhhhhhhhh.

Lousy Books for anyone

Gospel Truth: The New Image of Jesus Emerging from Science and History and Why It Matters
by Russell Shorto

Instead of pushing his own theories and opinions, Shorto pushes the theories and the opinions of the Jesus Seminar -- far from representing "modern scholarly opinion," the Jesus Seminar is a fringe group that has been variously called a joke and a sham by the true members of mainstream scholarship. Shorto is a journalist who makes many serious errors and you'd be far better off with the "Gospel Truth" written by Graham Stanton.

Absolutely the worst possible introduction to modern New Testament scholarship, precisely because it is NOT written not by a scholar, but by a journalist who hides behind a veneer of being "an interested but dispassionate" witness and has not had the time or the ability to cover all the bases. Clear writing style is about all this has going for it.
